About KIG

Knysna Infrastructure Group

Knysna Infrastructure Group (KIG) is a community-driven initiative formed by residents to address infrastructure challenges in collaboration with Knysna Municipality. KIG has been active since December 2023.

Mission

Work towards a better Knysna through collaboration with relevant role players; improve service delivery, economy/job creation and quality of life.

Focus

Water, wastewater, electrical and road infrastructure; water security and Knysna Estuary health are key priorities.

Governance

KIG is registered as an NPC (2025/422212/08), 16 Green Street, Knysna. It describes itself as a transparent, community-funded, registered NPO with a separate audited bank account, income-tax exemption and Section 18 approval.

KIG's committee comprises approximately 50 members, representing a range of entities including a significant portion of Knysna's Homeowner Associations.

How this record is built

Evidence, not assumption

This site's Intervention Archive is built from KIG's own community reporting channels (WhatsApp groups used for reporting, tracking and escalating infrastructure and service-delivery issues), cross-referenced against KIG's financial statements and published documents, and Knysna Municipality's own publications where relevant.

KIG's own role is distinguished from municipal/partner work. A message appearing in a KIG community channel does not automatically mean KIG performed or funded the work. Records are labelled with a KIG role — Funded, Technical, Facilitated, Collaborative, or Reported / monitored — so municipal or contractor work is never presented as a KIG achievement.
Multiple reports about the same real-world project are grouped into one record, rather than one record per message, so the archive reflects genuine distinct interventions rather than an inflated message count. Financial figures reflect KIG's financial review; quotes and proposals are never presented as money spent.

Every record also carries an internal evidence trail (source messages, dates, reporting channel) retained by KIG for independent verification — this is not published in full to protect the privacy of community members, per KIG's data-handling practice.
